How is a Raja Ampat cruise structured?
Every cruise starts and ends in Sorong, West Papua. You fly into Domine Eduard Osok airport (SOQ) through Jakarta or Bali on domestic airlines such as Garuda Indonesia. There are no direct international flights into Sorong.
The boat then covers one of three regions, or links two or three of them on longer trips. A typical day on board looks like this:

Cabin cruise or private charter: which format fits you?
The real difference is what you buy: one berth on someone else’s schedule, or the whole boat on yours.

How many nights does each region really need?
Distance sets the minimum. From Sorong, the Dampier Strait is a short run, while Wayag and Misool sit at opposite ends of the islands.

How does Raja Ampat cruise pricing work?
Raja Ampat fares are not published as one flat number, and this guide will not make one up. The pricing unit is what you can pin down. Mixing up units is the most common reason two quotes look far apart.

Komodo fares are not a guide to Raja Ampat fares. Sorong is much further east than Labuan Bajo, the trips run longer, and the extra fuel and crew days raise the price.
Five things change a Raja Ampat quote the most:
- Region: the long crossing to Misool burns more fuel than a Dampier Strait loop
- Nights: each extra night adds crew, food and fuel
- Boat class: VIP phinisi, VVIP phinisi, catamaran or superyacht
- Season: October-April departures fill first and are priced to match
- Guest count: private quotes assume a fixed number of guests
Pricing units also differ between operators. Some price a whole boat per night instead of per trip. Before you pay a deposit, get these in writing: the unit, the nights and route, the guest count the price assumes, and what is included or excluded (fuel, park fees, alcohol, dive gear).

Which government fees apply in 2026?
There are two separate charges. Neither is part of the cruise fare unless your quote says so:
- Marine Park Conservation Card: set under West Papua Governor’s Regulation No. 4 of 2019, with the current rate confirmed at purchase or at booking. Sold at counters in Sorong and Waisai, or arranged by the operator.
- Raja Ampat Regency visitor ticket: a levy set by Raja Ampat Regency, paid through SIPARI and confirmed at booking.

When should you cruise, and when do the crossings turn rough?

What fleet classes appear on the vessel listing?
Komodo Luxury splits its fleet into VIP speedboats (for day trips, not Raja Ampat crossings), phinisi in VIP and VVIP classes, and superyachts or catamarans. Frequently Asked Questions
Can one Raja Ampat cruise cover both Wayag and Misool?
Yes, but only on a longer trip. Wayag is in the far north and Misool in the far south, with Sorong and the Dampier Strait in between. A 10-night itinerary can link all three regions when the weather allows. On 7 nights, most boats pair Central with either Wayag or Misool, not both, because the crossings would use up the time for diving and snorkelling.
Are park and regency fees included in a Raja Ampat cruise fare?
Usually not, unless the quote says so in writing. Guests pay for the Marine Park Conservation Card and the Raja Ampat Regency visitor ticket separately, and the current rates are confirmed at booking. Some operators collect both and pay them for you. Others send you to the counters in Sorong or Waisai. Check which applies before you pay a deposit.
Why do Raja Ampat cruise quotes vary so much between operators?
Most gaps come from the pricing unit, not the boat. One operator quotes per person per departure, another per trip for the whole boat, a third per night. Region, number of nights, boat class, season and the guest count assumed also change the total. Which months suit a first Raja Ampat cruise?
October to April is the core window, with the calmest seas in the Dampier Strait and around Wayag, so first-timers often aim for it. It is also when cabins sell fastest. June to August brings wind and rough crossings between Sorong and Misool, and Central itineraries hold up better then.
