Why do Raja Ampat vessels cost more than Komodo?
The premium comes from geography and demand:
- Distance. Every cruise starts and ends in Sorong. Wayag lies far to the north and Misool sits across open water to the south, so fuel burn on a 7-10 night route is far higher than on a Komodo loop.
- Repositioning. A phinisi that spends part of the year elsewhere has to sail east, and that passage cost gets spread across the Raja Ampat season.
- A concentrated prime window. The core season runs October to April. June to August brings wind and rough Sorong-Misool crossings, so demand piles into the calm months.
